Stripe: Documents for Verification

What documents does Stripe need for verification – and where do I upload them?

To ensure secure payment processing, Stripe is legally required to verify certain information about individuals and businesses. To avoid payout delays, make sure to upload the required documents promptly.

In this article, you’ll learn:

  • What documents Stripe requires for verification

  • Where to upload them

Identity Verification

Stripe needs a valid government-issued ID from the person listed as the account holder or beneficial owner.

Accepted identity documents:

  • Passport

  • National ID card (front and back)

  • Driver’s license (front and back)

  • Residence permit with photo (if available)

👉 Important: Make sure the document is valid, fully visible (all corners included), and clearly legible. Blurry or cropped photos will be rejected.

Proof of Home Address

In addition to your identity, Stripe also verifies your home address. The document must be no older than 6 months.

Accepted address verification documents:

  • Bank statement

  • Utility bill (electricity, water, gas)

  • Official letter from a government agency or tax office

  • Registration certificate from your local authority

👉 The name and address must match the details in your Stripe account.

Business Verification

If you’ve registered a business or organization, Stripe will request additional documentation.

Documents may include:

  • Commercial register extract

  • Business registration certificate

  • Articles of association

  • VAT certificate

👉 The required documents depend on your business structure.

Where to upload the documents

Stripe will notify you by email if verification is needed or if a document is missing. You can also access your dashboard directly:

Here’s how it works:

  1. Go to the Stripe Dashboard: dashboard.stripe.com

  2. Click "Settings" (bottom left)

  3. Select "Verification" or "Identity verification"

  4. Follow the upload instructions

Stripe typically reviews documents within a few business days. If anything is rejected, you'll receive a notification and can re-upload the correct files.
